Saturday's Tournament Match

Hello families,

Saturday's tournament match will be played at Highland (Sparta) High School at 2:30 pm.  The address of the school is 1300 State Route 314, Marengo, Ohio 43334.

We are asking that athletes meet at Highland (Sparta) High School at 1:30 pm (dressed and ready to play).  Please wear your short sleeve jerseys and bring your grey warm up shirts and maroon jackets.  Please make sure your pants worn on the bottom are appropriate, such as black/grey or the maroon given to you.  NO pajama pants please.

We will be playing the number 1 seed Highland (Sparta).  Bring your fans and Let's Go Vikes! :)

The week of October 13th

Hello athletes and families,

I wanted to give you an update of the week ahead so you can schedule accordingly.

Monday, October 13th - OFF

Tuesday, October 14th - Practice 3:30-5:00 - Varsity will assess injuries and how many athletes may need to be pulled from JV to help with the tournament match.

Wednesday, October 15th - BOTH JV and VARSITY Immediately after PSAT's please grab lunch and then head to the gym around 1pm ish.  We are asking that JV turn in all uniforms, warm-ups, and bags.  Please make sure ALL items are clean.  If you are unable to make this volleyball meeting, please drop off your uniform materials to Coach Dow's classroom.  If uniforms are not turned in, accounts will be charged for missing items.  If you would like to drop off your uniform early, you can drop it off in Coach Dow's classroom in a bag marked with your name, please.  Varsity - you will be turning in one set of uniforms depending on which one is decided to be worn for the tournament.

Thursday, October 16th - Practice 3:30-5

Friday, October 17th - Practice 3:30-4:30

Saturday - Tournament match TBA - We will plan to meet at the school hosting the match, and I will update you as soon as we know more details.

October 21 - Banquet at Irion's - Please remember to RSVP to Tonia Irion with the amount of people attending the banquet.

Thanks for all of your help!  JV - you are invited to attend all practices if you'd like.  We'd love to have you there.  Have a great rest of your weekend!

Banquet Info (RSVP by Oct. 15)

Hello all CA Volleyball Families - We are looking forward to hosting the Volleyball Banquet at our house on October 21st at 6 PM.  So that we can plan for food, if you would please send me a count of how many people will be attending in your family no later than October 15th, I would really appreciate it.  

Many of you have asked how you can contribute....  I would like to take up a voluntary donation to help cover the expenses.  We will have a box at the event or you can mail it to my house at 7178 Greensward Road, New Albany, OH 43054. 

Nikki Smith has graciously offered to make the food for the event and Yamani Gunawardena is getting a special cake designed.  If you have never had Nikki's food you are in for a huge treat!  She is one of the best cooks I know!!  And I had the pleasure of trying one of the cakes that Yamani is bringing several years ago. It was wonderful! :-)

Volleyball Updates

Dear Families,

This is our last week of our official schedule!  I can't believe how fast time has gone this season!  We have a busy week ahead of us with two home matches and an away match on Thursday.  Just a reminder that Tuesday is SENIOR NIGHT!  So, let's pack the stands for our three special seniors!  Also, I have updated the team calendar for the Varsity team with our tournament date and practice schedule for the upcoming weeks!  Please be sure to check the online team calendar and schedule any appointments accordingly, as we hope to have our full team for the remainder of our practices!

Our tournament date is set, but we will wait to see our opponent and site of the match.  For more information about the tournament and brackets go to www.cdab.org.

Also, our banquet has been set!  It will be October 21 at 6:00pm at the Irion's house.  I'd like to give a special thanks to the Irion family for hosting.  I'm sure Polly will follow up with any needed details!  Thanks to all of you for your support, help during the matches, and enthusiasm for our volleyball teams!

Special DIG PINK Event on Saturday, Sept. 27

Players and Families:

On Saturday, September 27 at 10:00am, Columbus Academy will host CSG and Worthington Christian.  This tri-meet will also include a special Dig Pink event to kick off National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and to support breast cancer patients and their families.  (Learn more about Dig Pink at http://www.side-out.org/digpink/.)

We have several fun PINK activities planned for this event:

• Special T-shirts for the players
• “Pinked Out” nets
• “Pinked Out” gym
• Invite the CA middle school volleyball teams to attend the games and the event
• Honor breast cancer survivors who are in attendance
• Host a simple brunch for all players and their families

We are inviting each of our CA volleyball families to help support the event by contributing to the brunch.  The brunch will be simple – bagels and cream cheese, pastries, fruit, veggies and dip, and coffee.  The sign up process for food is always difficult.  To make it easier, I’ve just assigned each family to a suggested item.  There will be tables set up in the hallway where you can place your items when you arrive.

Scorebook and Libero Tracking Training

I’ll give scorebook and Libero tracking training during the Tue., Aug. 26 and Tue., Sep. 2 games (both JV and Varsity).  I’ve also posted on the blog new links to Scorebook and Libero Tracking Instructions.  (Left side under the RELATED LINKS section.)  These are great for a quick refresher before a game.
