OSU Winter Clinics - Check Them Out!
Our athletes have benefitted from these programs taught by the OSU coaches and varsity athletes. They offer quick, concentrated skills development programming that fits around school schedules.

Club Opportunities and Tryouts
Parents and athletes are reminded that tryouts with local club volleyball teams are coming up. Our coaches encourage ALL athletes to consider club play to hone their skills and help Columbus Academy continue to elevate our program. This a sure way to improve your skills, get more court time and have fun. There is more information about local clubs on our site under the club link here.
Most of our lead players have taken advantage of club programming on some level. If you can't play on a club team, consider one-on-one training, seminars and programs offered by these clubs.
Many of the club tryouts are next weekend on November 11 and 12. Please check the website of any club in which you may have interest to verify tryout dates and any requirements, forms or applications you need to complete that day.
If you need more information, contact Coach Roehrenbeck and she will share more about the programs and put you in touch with team members who have played club sports.

Game times
Dear Families,
I'm sorry for the game time discrepancies tonight vs. Lakewood. We were emailed many changes in the start of the season for our schedule and apparently numerous websites (Lakewood included) were not updated. If there is ever a question about game time, please ask your daughter first what time the bus is leaving so you have an idea of what time we start. Maureen Belcher is the final say as to when we leave and does not leave her office (usually) until all teams have left for their games, so your daughter will know for sure what time the game starts. We are going to send home an updated schedule (hard copy) of our game times, so please be sure to ask your daughter for it when she gets home from the next practice. Thanks for your patience and understanding.

Reminders, Updates, etc.
Hello athletes and families,
We have some important updates and reminders that need your attention. Kathy Turner has so graciously added some spiritwear to www.shopvikingcorner.com for the volleyball team and fans. The clothing is optional, but we do ask that each player purchase a pink Volley for the Cure uniform shirt (unless your coach has instructed you to buy white as a libero). We will be participating in a Volley for the Cure event at Grandview High School and need to make sure our entire team is wearing the uniform shirt. The Viking Corner will add your numbers to the shirts, we just need you to go online and purchase the size you would like.
The items will be up on www.shopvikingcorner.com this week only and then removed on Friday, August 17, 2012. It is very important that we purchase our uniform shirts this week so we can make sure we have them all in time for the game. If you would like to encourage people to attend the Volley for the Cure match, they can also go online and purchase a fan shirt. Proceeds will go to breast cancer research!
Also, please refer to our calendar on the blog (listed on the left) for practice time and game time updates. Some of our game times have been changed due to opposing teams having a freshman team so please be sure to check the time of each match before leaving for the game! Also, we have a parent meeting this Thursday after our scrimmage vs. Worthington Christian. Please bring your questions for the season and a calendar to mark any days you may be needed to volunteer!
Thanks so much for all of your support and we are looking forward to a great season. We are very excited to have such a great group of girls!

Reminders and Updates
Dear Families and Athletes,
PLEASE REMEMBER all students interested in playing volleyball MUST complete a sports physical PRIOR to team tryouts. Columbus Academy is again offering convenient and FREE Pre-participation Physical Exams (PPEs) on Wednesday, June 6, 2012. Physicals begin at 5:45 for Upper School and 6:45 for Middle School Students. Parents are encouraged to come and fill out medical release forms as well. More information is available here.
Our Tryout Start Date is August 6, 2012: Please refer to our calendar for practice times (see left blog column). Team Photos are August 13th. The team photo time is TBA.
Team Camp: LAST CALL for signups for TEAM CAMP in June with Coach McDonald from Otterbein. If you are still interested, please let Coach Dow know and turn in your check with shirt size to him at school during Activities Period.
Team T-Shirts: If you plan to play volleyball next year and are NOT attending team camp, but ARE interested in purchasing our "team volleyball shirt", please give $6 to Coach Dow with your name and shirt size written on a piece of paper ASAP. If you pay by check, please make it out to Monica McDonald. We will wear these shirts during the volleyball season. If you ARE attending team camp your shirt is included with the price of camp so you do NOT need to do this. You will receive a shirt at camp.
MS Camp Service Credit: If you will be helping out with the Middle School Volleyball camp, please email Coach Roehrenbeck (or Coach Dow) to let us know. You will get service hours credit for it and it's a great chance to get in the gym before camp as well. The Middle School Camp is June 18-21st from 9:00-11:30. Thanks so much for your help, and we hope you all can attend!
Please spread the word about these updates and encourage all parents and athletes to subscribe to the blog so that all of these emails are received directly to your email addresses! We look forward to seeing you all soon!
