2013 Varsity Game Schedule

We are excited to report that we have received the initial game schedule sheet from our new league! (See the calendar links on the left column.) It will be an exciting season to match up against a new mix of central Ohio teams. Soon we will also post the JV schedule and we will update the virtual online calendar — our cool tool that automatically updates your smart devices.

Hello athletes and families,

I have been receiving questions regarding practice times and dates throughout the summer, so I wanted to post what I know so far.  As I receive information and confirm dates and times, I will post it on the blog.  In the meantime, please hold tight with your questions about specific "times".

The weight room coach (Mark Hammond) is continuing his sessions with "in season" athletes at this time.  He had low attendance from out of season athletes so he cancelled the later sessions.  He did however say that anyone interested in attending may contact him to attend a session.  I strongly encourage all athletes to do so BEFORE the summer begins!  I would like to see all athletes continue to weight lift and work out with Coach Hammond throughout the summer as well.  He will post a schedule later in the school year to let you know what times he will have sessions throughout the summer.  His email is Mark.Hammond@osumc.edu if you are unable to go and see him after school and would like more information.

June17-June 20 - (9-11:30AM) Camp for kids
We'd love to have everyone come out and help with the summer camp.  You may receive service hours for helping.  This is also a great way to get some touches on the volleyball!

Tentative Dates - I'm working on confirming a summer play date at Newark Catholic on July 15, July 22, and July 29.  The head coach will confirm with me in May so please be patient.  This would be from 4-6pm and would be in place of open gyms if we are able to reserve a spot.

VOLLEYBALL TEAM CAMP WITH OTTERBEIN COACH MONICA MCDONALD - July 24, July 25, July 26 We strongly encourage all girls to attend this camp.   We purposefully pushed to schedule this at the end of summer so we could go right into the season after getting together as a team.  We are working with Gahanna Christian to confirm times of camp, but Wednesday and Thursday will most likely be at night with a play day on Friday morning possibly at Gahanna Christian. (Waiting on confirmation that their gym is available).  We will also be posting the cost of camp once we match up times with GCA on our camp.  Information with be available as I receive it.

August 1, August 2, August 5-9th - 6-8pm.  Tryouts will be August 1 and 2.  We will discuss teams at the start of practice on August 5.

August 12 - Photo Day  (Time is TBA)

Practice times the week of August 13 will be announced with your coach on August 5.  JV and Varsity may start practicing at separate times...TBD.

August 17 - First Match at Centerburg 10AM
August 20- Match at Home vs. Marion Franklin 6:30 pm.
August 21 - First Day of School OFF - NO PRACTICE
August 22- We will begin our school practice time schedule 3:30-5:00.

For those of you that like to plan ahead for vacations or college visits, here are some days will be off during the season.
August 21 - First Day of School - OFF
September 2 (Labor Day) - OFF
September 13- OFF

Summer Team Camp - Mark your calendars!!!

Hello families,

Our volleyball season is just around the corner!  To prepare, we will be getting in the weight room after April 1 and will continue throughout the summer into the season.  Our weight room coach will be emailing me with a new schedule soon.  Please encourage your teammates to get in there and stay in shape so we are ready for our season! 

Please MARK YOUR CALENDARS.  We will have another team camp with Coach Monica McDonald on July 24 and July 25.  I tried to push the camp to a later date in hopes of everyone being able to attend, so we are ready for our season on August 1.  Times and prices are TBD with Coach McDonald.   I will put them on the blog as I receive them. 

Also, please mark your calendars for the kids camp on June 17-20th from 9-11:30.  All are welcome and encouraged to attend and help out our future volleyball players.  You may receive your service hours from helping at the camp.  This is a great way to get back in the gym and get some touches on the ball with your friends.

OSU Winter Clinics - Check Them Out!

Our athletes have benefitted from these programs taught by the OSU coaches and varsity athletes. They offer quick, concentrated skills development programming that fits around school schedules.

Club Opportunities and Tryouts

Parents and athletes are reminded that tryouts with local club volleyball teams are coming up. Our coaches encourage ALL athletes to consider club play to hone their skills and help Columbus Academy continue to elevate our program. This a sure way to improve your skills, get more court time and have fun. There is more information about local clubs on our site under the club link here.

Most of our lead players have taken advantage of club programming on some level. If you can't play on a club team, consider one-on-one training, seminars and programs offered by these clubs. 

Many of the club tryouts are next weekend on November 11 and 12. Please check the website of any club in which you may have interest to verify tryout dates and any requirements, forms or applications you need to complete that day. 

If you need more information, contact Coach Roehrenbeck and she will share more about the programs and put you in touch with team members who have played club sports.

League Recognizes Two CA Players

We are excited to announce that the Ohio Mid State League has recognized two of Columbus Academy's varsity standouts. Jill Woodard was named Second Team, All Mid State League. Lauren Vodnick was recognized with an Honorable Mention, All District. We are proud of these athletes and look forward to their continued leadership next season.

Many parents have also ordered prints directly via the site. They are pro-quality prints, ship direct and cost is very reasonable.
